Beat The Beats

Frenetic Boxing Rythm VR game made with Unity

Beat The Beats

Unity

Beat the Beats is a rythm game with boxing movements as our main mechanic. This is my first own game developed as part of the tiny Creative team of Parallel Circles. (September 2021 - Currently working)

What I did

I was main developer together with Lucas González. I focused on the mechanics and gameplay polishing, being also the Level Designer.

Work

Beat the Beats' gameplay is based on breaking, dodgeing or blocking incoming elements following the music's rythm. I implemented the gameplay loop of a level and iterated on the player's interaction with all the elements (we have elements to hit coming from 10 different directions, dodges coming from left-right, and blockers coming from 4 directions). All elements' trajectory is defined by a Spline designed to replicate boxing movements, like incoming boxing punches to dodge.

The game has plenty of playable tracks (currently +30, more incoming) which were selected one by one from creative music libraries, from artists directly, and we have even 4 tracks made specially for the game.

We have also the Challenge gamemode, which containes one (and more to come...) challenging levels that differs from the main mechanics. Quick Reaction is currently the challenge we have in the game, which consists in elements that popup in a grid following different patterns that the user has to recognize to break them the fastest they can as soon as they appear.

We have leaderboards in all playable levels and a Daily level that mixes up different sections of levels of the game and increases difficulty progressively while playing it.
